The Rotary Club of Victoria proudly presented English pictorial dictionaries to the Plaisance Primary School and Private schools, as a gift to Seychelles’ education system.
The books, which are funded by the club will be distributed to all other Government primary schools in regions targeting Primary 5 and Primary 6 students. Our goal is to strengthen and support basic education and literacy. The distribution of dictionaries were as follows:
– 50 Plaisance Primary School
– 30 Independent School
– 30 International School Seychelles
– 10 Ecole Francaise de Seychelles
– 7 Trotters Stop Pre & Primary School
President Angele of Rotary Club of Victoria mentioned that dictionary is the most important tool in learning to read. In a dictionary children will learn how to pronounce a word, how to spell it, and what it means. This gift is part of the club larger effort to nurture and support a culture of reading, writing and speaking skills in the schools. Through this donation, we want Seychellois children to learn to cherish good books, to read as often as possible, and to enjoy reading as a constructive way of spending their time.
President Angele urged all of children to continue reading, studying hard, and performing well. She want them to discover the pleasure of reading – because it is a gift that will stay with them throughout their lives. She stressed that if they work hard and commit themselves to life-long learning through reading, new opportunities will emerge and their dreams will come true.
In addition to the dictionaries, at the beginning of the year, COVID-19 has necessitated several measures by the country to bring this situation under control and the Rotary Club of Victoria has brought great efforts to sensitize the public of some areas of importance. The Club also presented some floor social distance stickers in encouraging good hygiene behaviour among the young population and usable face masks to the staff of the school.
